Everyone needs the first three: Claude, Brave, Exa. Then Granola if you use it, and the one section for your ATS.
1
Your Claude token
Why we need it
RecruiterClaw thinks with your own Claude subscription. This token is how your seat uses it. Nothing runs on anyone else's account, and your usage stays on your plan.
What you need
- A Claude Max, Team, or Enterprise plan. The free plan and the $20 Pro plan do not have the capacity a RecruiterClaw seat uses in a normal week. Max is the usual pick for a solo desk.
- A Mac or Windows computer.
- The email and password for your Claude account.
On a Mac
- Open Terminal. Press Command + Space, type Terminal, press Enter. A plain text window opens. That is all Terminal is.
- Install Claude Code. Copy this line, paste it into Terminal, press Enter. It shows nothing while it downloads. Wait until a new prompt line appears.
curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
- Open a new Terminal window. Press Command + N. The old window does not know about the install yet. In the new window, type this and press Enter. You should see a version number.
claude --version
- Make the token. Type this and press Enter. Your browser opens to claude.ai.
claude setup-token
- Sign in and approve. Use the account that has your Claude plan, not a personal free account. Click approve when it asks.
- Copy the token. Back in Terminal, a long line starting with
sk-ant-oatis printed. Select the whole line and copy it. It is shown once. If you lose it, run the same command again and a new one is made. - Paste it into your setup page in the Claude token box, then Save & Apply. You are done with the hard part.
On Windows instead
- Open PowerShell. Click Start, type PowerShell, press Enter. You do not need to run it as administrator.
- Install Claude Code. Paste this and press Enter.
irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex
- Open a new PowerShell window and check the install.
claude --version
- Make the token.
claude setup-token
- Sign in with your Claude plan account, approve, then copy the
sk-ant-oatline from PowerShell and paste it into your setup page.
If you see The token '&&' is not a valid statement separator, you are in PowerShell and pasted a Command Prompt line. Use the PowerShell line above.
If something goes wrong
- The browser did not open.
- Press the c key in Terminal. That copies the sign-in link. Paste it into your browser's address bar.
- The browser shows a code and says "Paste code here if prompted."
- Copy that code, go back to Terminal, paste it, press Enter.
- Terminal says
claude: command not found. - You are in the old window. Open a new Terminal window and try again. If it still fails on a Mac, paste these two lines one at a time, then open a new window once more.
echo 'export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"' >> ~/.zshrc
source ~/.zshrc
- It says 403, Request not allowed.
- Your Claude plan is not active on the account you signed in with. Check your plan at claude.ai/settings, then run
claude setup-tokenagain. - I copied it but my setup page says the token is wrong.
- Make sure you copied the whole line with no spaces at either end, and that it starts with
sk-ant-oat. If in doubt, run the command again and paste the new one.
The token lasts one year. We will remind you before it expires, and renewing it is the same two-minute process.
2
Brave Search key
Why we need it
Brave is one of the two search engines behind your morning brief's news, company research, and sourcing. Your own key keeps those searches on your own account instead of a shared one.
Good to know
- Brave runs on prepaid credits, not a subscription. The Search plan includes free credits every month, and you are only charged for credits you choose to buy.
- Brave asks for a credit card when you sign up, to prevent abuse.
Steps
- Go to brave.com/search/api and click Get my API key. Click Create account, enter your work email and a password.
- Check your email. If Brave sends a confirmation link, click it. If Brave asks you to verify your account or your card by email, finish that before you continue. This is the step that sometimes turns into a back-and-forth with Brave. Keep going until the dashboard lets you in.
- Sign in to the dashboard at api-dashboard.search.brave.com.
- Choose the Search plan and add your card when asked. You start with the free monthly credits.
- Create the key. Open the API Keys section, add a new key, and name it RecruiterClaw. Copy the key it shows you.
- Paste it into your setup page in the Brave key box, then Save & Apply.
RecruiterClaw keeps its searches small on purpose. If your usage ever climbs past the free credits, you will see it on Brave's dashboard first, and nothing changes without your say.
3
Exa key
Why we need it
Exa is the research engine your morning brief leans on first for news about the companies you watch, and it powers the full-history talent search. Your own key keeps it on your own quota.
Good to know
- New accounts get $10 of free credits the day you sign up, and the free balance resets to $10 on the first of every month.
- No payment method required for the free tier.
Steps
- Go to dashboard.exa.ai and sign up with your work email, or with Google if you prefer.
- Finish the short onboarding the dashboard walks you through.
- Open API Keys in the dashboard, or go straight to dashboard.exa.ai/api-keys. Create a key and name it RecruiterClaw.
- Copy the key it shows you.
- Paste it into your setup page in the Exa key box, then Save & Apply.
4
Granola key
Why we need it
With this key RecruiterClaw reads your call notes, so a candidate's record, your morning brief, and your meeting prep all carry what was actually said on the call.
What you need
- A Granola Business or Enterprise plan. Granola does not offer API keys on its free or individual plans.
- The Granola desktop app installed and signed in. This is done in the app, not on a website.
Steps
- Open the Granola app on your computer.
- Open Settings. Click your workspace name in the bottom-left corner, then choose Settings.
- Go to Connectors, then API keys.
- Click Create new key. Check both Personal notes and Public notes, so RecruiterClaw sees your own notes and the ones shared with your team.
- Click Generate API Key and copy it. The key starts with
grn_. - Paste it into your setup page in the Granola key box, then Save & Apply.
On an Enterprise plan, your Granola admin may need to allow API access for members first, under Settings, Workspace, General. If you do not see the API keys option, that is the reason.
5
Loxo key and slug
Why we need it
The key lets RecruiterClaw read your pipeline live, build candidate briefs, and log notes or stage moves when you approve them. RecruiterClaw never deletes a Loxo record. That is written into the product, not just the policy.
What you need
- A Loxo login with admin rights. Only admins see the API Keys page.
- Loxo's Open API is a paid Loxo feature. If it is not on your account yet, Loxo Support turns it on.
The key
- Sign in to Loxo as an admin.
- Open Settings, then API Keys.
- Create a key and name it RecruiterClaw. Copy it.
- Paste it into your setup page in the Loxo key box, then Save & Apply.
Do not see API Keys under Settings? Email Loxo Support and ask them to enable Open API access for your account. It usually takes a day or two. You can finish the rest of your setup in the meantime and add the key when it arrives.
The slug
Your slug is the first part of your Loxo web address. It tells RecruiterClaw which Loxo account is yours. No support ticket needed.
- Open Loxo in your browser and look at the address bar.
- Find the part before
.app.loxo.co. If your address ishttps://palermo-rhodes.app.loxo.co, your slug ispalermo-rhodes. - Type it into your setup page exactly as it appears, lowercase, no spaces, no
https, nothing after it.
You do not need to find your Loxo user ID. We look that up from your work email once the key is in.
6
Jarvi key
Why we need it
The key lets RecruiterClaw read your Jarvi pipeline live, build candidate briefs, and log notes when you approve them. RecruiterClaw never deletes a Jarvi record. That is written into the product, not just the policy.
What you need
- Your Jarvi login. Jarvi's API comes with every plan, so there is nothing to switch on.
- Nothing else. No slug, no user ID. One key does it.
Steps
- Sign in to Jarvi in your browser.
- Open your Preferences, then API.
- Click the button to generate API keys. Jarvi gives you two: a public key and a private key.
- Copy the private key. That is the one RecruiterClaw needs. The public key can only create profiles, and the private key is shown once, at the moment it is created. If you lose it, generate a new pair.
- Paste it into your setup page in the Jarvi key box, then Save & Apply.
Jarvi allows 500 API requests a day. RecruiterClaw keeps count and stays under it, so a busy day of questions will not lock you out.
7
Spott key
Why we need it
The key lets RecruiterClaw read your Spott pipeline live, build candidate briefs, and log notes or stage moves when you approve them. RecruiterClaw never deletes a Spott record. That is written into the product, not just the policy.
What you need
- A Spott login with admin permissions. Only admins see the API page.
- Make the key from your own login, not a shared one. Spott ties each key to the person who made it, and everything RecruiterClaw logs will show that person's name.
Steps
- Sign in to Spott in your browser.
- Open Settings, then API.
- Generate a new key and name it RecruiterClaw.
- Copy it immediately. Spott shows the key once. If you lose it, generate a new one.
- Paste it into your setup page in the Spott key box, then Save & Apply.
One key per person. If a second recruiter at your firm gets a RecruiterClaw seat later, they make their own key the same way.
✓
Putting the keys into your setup
- Open the Secrets tab of your RecruiterClaw setup. Every key has its own row, named for the service it belongs to, with an empty box waiting for the value. Once a key is in, the box asks for a new value only if you want to replace it.
- Paste the whole value into the box for that key. No spaces before or after. Keys are long. If the box looks full, that is normal.
- Click Save & Apply. The box clears, the row shows the last four characters of what you pasted as a hint, and the status reads Stored. When we can confirm the key with the service it belongs to, the status changes to Verified. Some keys only ever show Stored, and that is fine. Not finished yet? Save Draft keeps what you have entered so you can come back later.
- Want to double-check a value? Click Show next to the hint. It reveals the key on your screen only.
- Need to change one later? Paste the new value into the same box and click Save & Apply. The old one is replaced the moment you do.
If a row says We hold this, that is a key RecruiterClaw supplies for you. Leave it alone. The rows marked Client holds this are the ones this page is about.
If a key ever ends up somewhere it should not, in an email, a chat, a screenshot, make a new one at the service that issued it and paste it over the old one on your setup page. New key in, old key out. Takes a minute.
Stuck on any of these? Reply to your setup email or write to jordan@recruiterclaw.ai. Tell us which section and what the screen says. Do not paste the key.
